230+ of 300 · TOPIK II · highest
230 or more out of 300 on TOPIK II — the highest level in the TOPIK system. 230 means an average of 77 per section. Scoring 70+ in Writing is the hardest part: it requires questions 53 and 54 written almost error-free with rich vocabulary.
Near-native functioning in academic and professional fields. Nuance, irony, the language of official documents, academic papers — all accessible. It is not "perfect Korean" (native speakers do not know everything either) but the official confirmation that Korean is no longer a barrier in any field.
Medicine (의대), pharmacy and law programmes often require Level 6 specifically. The Korean language teacher licence (한국어교원) asks foreigners for Level 6. Civil service, court interpreting, client-facing roles at large companies. It fully satisfies the language requirement for F-5 permanent residency and naturalisation. Maximum language bonus in GKS and most university scholarships.
Moving from 5 to 6 is mostly about consistency: one weak section drops the result back to Level 5. So identify your weakest section and spend 2–3 months on it alone. For Writing, prepare 10–15 topics for question 54 (social issues, technology, education), write 600–700 character essays under time pressure and have a Korean teacher mark them. Most people reach Level 6 after 2–4 years of structured study.
