The final test for naturalisation (귀화) · interview exemption
The 귀화용 종합평가 (comprehensive evaluation for naturalisation, KINAT) is taken by those who completed the FULL stage 5 course (basic 70 hours + advanced 30 hours), or by people who have applied for naturalisation (within 1 year of applying). Compared with the 영주용 version, the topics go deeper (Korean history, the Constitution, civic duties) and passing gives something different: exemption from the naturalisation interview.
Same structure as the 영주용 test: 45 questions, 70 minutes. Written 40 questions, 60 minutes — 36 multiple-choice (65 points) + 4 written (10 points). Oral 5 questions, 10 minutes, 25 points. 100 points total, pass at 60. Paper (PBT, results in 6 days) or computer (CBT, results in 2 working days). Questions come from the 한국사회 이해 (기본 + 심화) textbooks; the oral part may ask about the rights and duties of a Korean citizen and your view of Korean history.
For those who completed the full KIIP stage 5: 귀화 이수 status + the basic knowledge (기본소양) requirement for naturalisation is satisfied + EXEMPTION from the naturalisation INTERVIEW (귀화 면접심사). That is the biggest benefit: the interview is the stage where most naturalisation applicants fail. For those who sat it only as applicants without the course: the basic knowledge requirement is satisfied, but the interview remains. Failing candidates may retake. In the advanced course, 41–59 points counts as completion via 재수료, but does not exempt you from the interview.
Both are 45 questions, pass at 60. The differences: (1) entry requirement — stage 5 basic course (70 hours) for 영주용, the full course (100 hours) for 귀화용; (2) depth — 귀화용 has more history, Constitution and civic duties; (3) outcome — 영주용 satisfies the F-5 language/knowledge requirement, 귀화용 exempts you from the naturalisation interview. Which to take: if your plan is F-5 first and citizenship later — 영주용, then the 30-hour advanced course and 귀화용. Going straight to citizenship (for example from an F-6 marriage visa) — 귀화용. The exact conditions are updated in immigration.go.kr notices.
